A More Public Life Does Not Mean the Best Life

16th Aug 202116th Aug 2021 maymargaret

On an hourly basis, when we check our Instagram or Facebook (I don’t have it but maybe TikTok) we are presented with photographs of perfect looking people living glamorous lives at a pool side while we sit at our desks, typing our lives away. They travel, we work and dwell on the idea that someone else is living what we think is our dream life. Our own social media pages are granted the odd post about our own friends and our own selfies, check ins at local places and events. But can we see it matching up to that incredibly aesthetic photo in a field of a girl enjoying her time on earth?

Photographs only tell a snippet of a story. Many influencers know this, and use it. A perfectly posed photo can create envy worldwide. But how much of it is real? How much are we not seeing? It is possible that so many influencers and insta models are just like the model who was photographed in coach on the plane, when she told the world she was flying first class? How many do-gooders are posing for a picture with a local store owner to tell the world she is helping him rebuild after riots, only to drive off in a flash car moments the moment the camera is put away?

A closer look at these posts can be seen for what they are. A perfect pose tells of constant photographing in a life that has exchanged privacy for fame. A life in which nothing can be enjoyed unless filmed. We hear about it every day from friends of aspiring influencers, who can’t go 5 minutes without posting. We see perfect, poreless skin and proportions one could only dream of, because it just doesn’t exist.

The best life you can live is one that is left to your ideas. If you want to live it quietly, do it. If you want to read a book without telling the world, read it. You can still visit beautiful places without viewing it through a camera. See things with your eyes. Do things for the right reasons. Do it for your own happiness.
